HotDog Pro can be conceptualized as having several parts with the HotDog Shell wrapping them all together. The HotDog Shell contains:
The HotDog Shell gives you access to all preferences, functions, resources, online help and access to SuperToolz.
Each document in HotDog Pro is opened and edited with the editor. Usually editors are only given brief consideration by users because, by all outward appearances, they appear the same.
The HotDog editor is deceptively powerful. As well as many convenient editing features (such as text collapsing for increased readability and productivity, shortcut key creation for greater speed, word wrapping, accurate line numbering, built-in thesaurus, etc.), the HotDog editor also supports the following great features:
HotDog Pro has been designed so that you can access the functionality within the program as easily as possible:
Every HotDog Pro feature is accessible using our eleven-menu system.
Editing features can be accessed at the click of a button using our 10 pre-configured toolbars.
To tailor HotDog Pro to your own editing style, all toolbars have been designed to be completely customizable. You can create your own toolbars; add/remove functions, HTML tags and macros to any toolbar; hide any toolbar that you don't wish to use or remove it entirely.
All toolbars are floating and resizable. By default, each toolbar is displayed just below the menu system, but each toolbar can be moved and re-sized to your individual preference. You can also quickly hide/display your toolbars at any time simply by right-clicking on any currently open toolbar (or selecting Toolbars in the View menu) and selecting the toolbar you wish to hide/display.
The table below displays the different sets of functions in the HotDog Pro menu-toolbar system:
As more and more functionality was added to HotDog Pro, we had to look for a way of making all of it easily accessible. Menus are too time-consuming. Toolbars, though ideal for most editing functions, aren't powerful enough for really involved tasks. The Sausage solution was to develop resource panels that are controlled by a Resource Manager.
A resource panel is a floating, re-sizable window that groups similar resources and functionality into the same place. Each resource panel performs a specific set of tasks related to website authoring.
The table below displays all the great resource panels controlled by HotDog Pro's Resource Manager:
So that you only use the resources that you need during the website development process, our HotDog Team created 5 different resource panel configurations that you can use:
FTP Configuration: This displays the Local Files and Internet Files resource panels.
Websites Configuration: This displays the Local Files and Websites resource panels.
Tags Configuration: This displays the HTML Property Sheet and HTML Tags resource panels.
Macro Configuration: This displays the MultiLine Clipboard and the Macro Editor resource panels.
Alternatively, to conform to your own website development style, all
resource panels can be opened/closed individually. By default, each
resource panel is docked to the left/right of the editing window, but
can be moved and re-sized to your individual preference. You can also
quickly hide/display your resource panels at any time simply by
clicking on ,
located in the View toolbar, and selecting from the drop-down list
(arrow to the right of the button) the panel that you wish to hide/display.
